It's Worth Telling

Last week, life stopped for a moment.

My husband—my rock, my partner in literally everything—had a sudden medical emergency that landed us in the ER. One minute we were sitting on the couch watching the next episode of Monk (our current binge-together project), the next I was gripping his hand, praying through tears, making jokes about how the yellow and black gurney they loaded him onto for the ambulance ride looked like "Bumblebee" from Transformers just to avoid the inevitable circumstance that had suddenly thrown itself upon us. In those long hours of uncertainty, with monitors beeping and doctors moving quickly, all I could think about was time. How fragile it is. How fleeting. And how often we forget that until it’s almost too late.

When I came home to grab a quick shower after two days of not leaving his side, exhausted and shaken, the adrenaline wore off and I was caught off guard as emotions rolled over me, around me, through me in a relentless thunderstorm that I could not control. And I just let it happen. There was no dam strong enough to hold back the torrent of uncertainty, disbelief, and then gratitude that consumed me on the deepest level that I've ever felt.

After getting back to the hospital smelling a little fresher, I sat in the stillness of his room while he slept in-between nurse visits and I.V. drips, and scrolled through photos—pictures of us through the years, memories captured in fleeting moments: laughing on the 4WD beach as a some local do-gooder pulled us out of a hole, holding hands at our favorite mountain trail (Cumberland Knob on the BRP if you're interested), our five kids laughing and making faces with him just this past Father's Day while trying to recreate an old photo, him sharing a Chick-fil-A cookie with our granddaughter literally just a couple days before, Sunday mornings with coffee and open Bibles.

And I wept.

Not just from fear or relief—but because I saw our story in those images. Tangible reminders of God’s faithfulness, of the life we’ve built, of the joy and love that have filled the ordinary. In that moment, I didn’t see just photos. I saw the evidence of grace. I saw chapters of a story only God could write.

It reminded me why I do what I do.

Photography, for me, has never been just about perfect poses or pretty locations. It’s about telling stories. Your stories. The ones unfolding in the sacred spaces of your everyday life—the messy, the beautiful, the hard, and the holy. The moments you might forget unless someone is there to hold them up and say, “Look. This is real. This mattered.”

After this week, I see more clearly than ever that what we’re capturing isn’t just for today—it’s for someday. For when you need to remember who you are. For when you want to tell your children, “This is what love looks like.” For when you need to trace the fingerprints of God on your life.

Friend, your story is worth telling. Your life—the real one, not the polished version—is worthy of being remembered. Don’t wait for a special occasion. The breath in your lungs and the people beside you are reason enough.

If you’re reading this, know that I’m praying for you. That whatever season you’re in, you feel God’s presence in the middle of it. That you’ll have the courage to show up as yourself—and let someone capture the beauty that’s already there.

I don’t take the honor of photographing your life lightly. I never really did—but now I feel the weight of it in a deeper, more sacred way. We’re preserving testimonies, not just taking pictures.

Thank you for trusting me with your moments. It's an honor that is not wasted on me

With love and a grateful heart,

Michelle
